Pushpagiri Centre for Virology provides testing for the primary identification of a wide variety of viral infections such as HIV, Hepatitis viruses, Herpes viruses, Respiratory Viruses, Dengue Virus, Japanese B Encephalitis Virus, Enteroviruses, and many others. The monitoring of viral load in chronic diseases (HBV, and HCV) are been done routinely.
The laboratory is among the first in Central Travancore to offer viral load detection for HBV and HCV since 2011. As part of the Department of Microbiology, the laboratory helps in the early diagnosis of Leptospirosis by Real-time PCR as well.
To achieve this, we utilize various diagnostic modalities at our disposal including infectious disease serology and nucleic acid amplification techniques. Furthermore, we are actively involved in the research remain at the forefront of patient care.

Being the Director of Academics and Research Rev. Dr. Mathew Mazhavancheril is the guiding force behind the Pushpagiri Centre for Virology and Molecular Biology. A Ph.D. in Biotechnology and later his postdoctoral studies earned him enough expertise to manage one of the key positions in PIMS&RC at ease.

Prof. Dr. Mercy John Idikula is an eminent Microbiologist with a special interest in Virology. Being a post graduate from Christian Medical College, Vellore, she is instrumental in establishing the Clinical Virology Department at CMC. Her genuine research aptitude and vast experience of more than 34 years is definitely shaping the center.
Mr. George Varghese
Assistant Professor , In-charge of Pushpagiri Centre for Virology & Molecular Biology
George Varghese, Assistant Professor of Microbiology is the Incharge of the center. Being a post graduate from Christian Medical College, Vellore, he has more than 20 years of teaching and diagnostic experience combined. As an experienced faculty, he is the driving force behind the day today functioning for the center.

Dr. Sherly Antony, a bloom from Pushpagiri Medical College, is a budding Clinical Microbiologist with strong research interests. She works as Senior Resident of Microbiology and a Scientist in Pushpagiri Research Centre.
